UCSF Infectious Disease Management Program
What problem were you trying to address with AgileMD?
The UCSF Infectious Disease Management program creates materials to help guide antimicrobial therapy use across our different hospitals as a part of our ongoing antimicrobial stewardship efforts. The recommendations in our materials reflect the unique constraints of our hospital formularies and local susceptibility patterns. They help us control infection rates, reduce antibiotic costs, and meet the Clinical Process of Care measures put forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
We needed a way to put our antibiograms, initial therapy recommendations, and dosing protocols at the fingertips of the hospital staff who we wanted using them the most. We knew that making an app was the solution but we didn’t have the resources or want to go through the hassle of putting together and maintaining an independent stand-alone app.
What has AgileMD helped you do?
Before AgileMD, our guidelines were on a website, which was mainly accessible by computer. The only data that we could gather was total number of website visits.
What are your goals with AgileMD in the future?
Now house staff can access our guidelines in an interactive and searchable format on their phones, tablets, and through the AgileMD web client. We can update the guidelines easily and quickly using the AgileMD authoring tool. We are also able to now see reports on the usage of our guidelines, which helps us target departments with low utilization and understand which guidelines may need revision. Users can also use the app to provide feedback on specific guidelines.
Currently, we reach over 900 clinicians at UCSF and are continuing to grow.
